Historic Carnegie Library cornerstone “time capsule”

The Burlington Public Library, Burlington Historical Preservation Advisory Board and the fledgling Burlington Historical Society are co-hosting Burlington’s Historic Carnegie Library Centennial Celebration

Saturday, June 25, 2016

  • Noon ~ Tour inside the Carnegie Library building by local historian and city councilwoman, Edie Edmundson. The Carnegie Library is located in historic downtown Burlington at 901 E. Fairhaven Ave.
  • 1 p.m. ~ Short program and the opening of the 100-year-old Carnegie Library time capsule at the new Burlington Public Library (820 E Washington Ave)

The time capsule was installed in June 1916 behind the cornerstone of the Carnegie Library at the start of its construction. The cornerstone has been removed and the time capsule box was inside.  The contents of the time capsule will be removed and displayed with related historical artifacts at the library during the celebration. Please bring and share your memories of visiting and using the Carnegie Library.

All ages welcome. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Burlington Library.
