Sunny May days in Skagit Valley are beautiful enough to call for a celebration. In fact, we have photographs from over a century ago showing people who felt the same way. We think that these photographs were taken in Burlington around 1910, but we know for sure that they depict an excited group celebrating the arrival of spring with a maypole dance. In this colorful dance, people weave intricate patterns with the ribbons that are tied to a central pole.
